Comedians

JESSICA OSBOURNE

Best known for being the classiest lady in the Albuquerque Comedy Scene (mainly because she’s English and everyone presumes this must be so) Jessica Osbourne was born and raised in the small town of Cleethorpes in the North of England and has been working in the Entertainment Industry since the wee age of 11. She has worked on far too many film and theatre projects, ranging from Actor/Comedienne to Executive Producer. In March-April 2011, she had the honor of performing in LA’s World Famous “The Comedy Store”, she was also featured on the “Duke City Comedy League” television series and in their LIVE shows, as well as Third Thursday Contest, Young Dumb and Full Comedy shows, Embassy Suites Comedy Room and numerous stand up shows around town. Jessica is also the “Event Co-Ordinator ( & Producer of Comedy content) for this years Albuquerque Film Festival which starts August 18th-21st 2011. Being an openly female comic, Jessica is known for her clean and clever yet adult sense humor, proving that all subjects can be accessible to all except the Senior citizens of the North East Heights. Having been performing for 20 years now she has learned that her only true happiness comes from making people laugh; if they don’t laugh… she simply has them beheaded in the true style of her predecessors.

MARY BYRD

Mary Byrd, a Colorado Springs native, has called Albuquerque home since 1993. She’s in Albuquerque on purpose – not because her car broke down here. A mild-mannered software consultant by day, she stepped up to the stage as a stand-up comedian in 2004. Mary was a finalist in the New Mexico’s CW/ My50-TV Great Southwest Laugh-Off in 2008. She has opened for national headliners Janine Gardner, Bruce Baum and Patrick Candelaria and has performed throughout New Mexico at such venues as: Albuquerque Convention Center, Blue Tower Comedy Lounge, Sun Ray Casino, Embassy Suites Comedy Room, Inn at Rio Rancho, County Line, Low Spirits: Anarkomedy, Cellar Door, UNM Continuing Education, Paparazzi/Our Place, Lotus Nightclub, Albuquerque Center for Peace and Justice and Laff’s Comedy Club. Mary is a regular on the local television show, “Duke City Comedy League” on My 50-TV airing Saturdays at midnight.

JOE QUESADA

Joe Quesada is a comedian in the very early part of his career looking for his voice. Like most comedians he started at open mics telling jokes to the 3 people in the bar that would listen to him. After successful gigs across the southwest including Comedy Works in Denver his confidence and material continues to grow.

MIKE LONG

Mike Long is a writer/comedian who has survived two divorces, seven heart attacks, multiple STD’s, and numerous hospitalizations for mental instability. He once owned a publishing company that crashed, burned, and left him bankrupt. His first novel “Cold Calling” was an unmitigated disaster that is currently available for free on his facebook page. He recently lost 111lbs, and will soon be sent to jail for not paying the child support he owes to a lesbian that he knocked up in an orgy. Due to his constant need for approval (and overwhelming desire to offend) he now works his issues out in front of live audiences whenever possible. He happens to think all of this makes him hilarious, and doesn’t give a shit about your opinion on the matter.

She’s been in nine episodes of Peacefield Production’s Duke City Comedy League television show and was a finalist in NBC’s Stand Up For Diversity nationwide comedy contest. Sarah very recently performed as part of the 2011 Austin, TX Ladies Are Funny Festival. Though she may keep her comedy on the clean side, Sarah Kennedy is guaranteed to never say what you expect.

MICHAEL JORDAN

Michael was born in Houston, Tx but was raised all of his life in the back woods of Arkansas. (yes, he’s eatin’ squirrel!) He entered military service right out of high school and the Air Force sent him to Albuquerque in 1971. Michael spent his entire 6 year military career on Kirtland AFB. (Join the Air Force…see the world they said.) He met his wife Connie while in the Air Force and had two children. Michael knew he could make people laugh, but his job as a truck driver involved considerable travel which kept him from taking his first open mic gig at Laff’s Comedy store in Albuquerque until 1995. Since then, Michael has performed in several local clubs, including Laff’s, County Line Restaurant and Misty’s Hideaway and two shows in Los Angeles. In July, 2006, Michael entered a comedy contest at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada and won First Place comic in the USAWorld Showcase. In August, 2010, he was a Quarter-Finalist in the southern California Ultimate Laugh Down comedy show. Hewas also a member of the Quakamolees Improv Group at the Gorilla Tango Comedy Theater. During that time, she also obtained a diploma in Humanities from Harvard University. During some of those years in Cambridge, MA, she worked as hostess for America’s most famous comedy club: “Catch-A-Rising Star.” There, she rubbed elbows with Jerry Seinfield, Ellen DeGeneres, Rosie O’Donnel, Brett Butler, Jeanne Garafalo, Denis Leary and more…a decade before they became stars. SARAH MOWREY

Sarah Mowrey loves comedy. She loves comedy so much that people have actually suggested she marry it. Just short of that, Sarah has taken to writing and performing it both online and in person. She’s only been doing Stand Up comedy for a few months; in that time she’s performed both in Albuquerque, New Mexico and Austin, Texas. She’s
become a regular at Young, Dumb and Full of Comedy’s Monday night open mic and has recently co-created her own open mic with Sarah Kennedy. In her free time a year ago, she founded a sketch comedy group called Comedy? that has performed two sold out shows at The Box. When Sarah asked her twitter friends what to put in her comedy bio she got this response, “She has nice hair and tells the jokes.” That she does. Thanks twitter! In the coming months, Sarah Mowrey is hoping to grow as a writer and a performer so her comedic marriage doesn’t get annulled.

RUSTY RUTHERFORD

Rusty Rutherford’s twisted comedy has “More Energy Than A High School Cheer Squad” (Montreal Fringe Festival). You’ll question if Rusty is sane one minute with his dark, offbeat humor, then question if he’s a “Comedic Genius” (Rusty’s mom) the next when he seems to incorporate every member of the audience into an on-the-spot freestyle rap. Rutherford’s comedic journey has taken him to venues of all shapes and sizes across America, Canada, and Santa Fe and has even landed him a spot on NBC’s Last Comic Standing. Rutherford graduated from the University of New Mexico where he studied Theatre, Media Arts, Psychology, and Communication and has been member of Blackout Theatre Company and Eat, Drink and be Larry sketch comedy troupe. He has trained with Tricklock Theatre in Albuquerque, NM and The Annoyance Theatre in Chicago, IL. Whatever you expect, throw it out the window and expect the unexpected in what can only be described as structured insanity.

CURT FLETCHER

Curt Fletcher started his comedy career four years into his promising pizza delivery career, realizing he could deliver punchlines faster than pizza. After retiring from pizza delivery he was back about a month later. He did that for three straight years becoming the Brett Favre of pizza delivery…minus the Wrangler commercials, and disturbing text messages. In 2003, Curt won the Great Southwest Laff Off, beating out 21 other comics, including Marc Shuter. In 2007, he beat out national headliners to advance to the semifinals of HBO’s Lucky 21
contest. He’s also advanced to the semifinals of the New Faces contest at Comedy Works twice. And you can see him at this years Laughing Skull Festival. In his short career, he’s already been seen with some of the nation’s top comics: Dane Cook, Harland Williams, Josh Blue, Ralphie May, Gabriel Iglesias, John Caponera, Dwayne Perkins, T.J. Miller, Troy Baxley and Chad Daniels to name a few. Curt, who now lives in Denver, is clever, twisted, and has a dead pan delivery that few can pull off. MATT PETERSON

Matt Peterson has been funny his whole life. Unfortunately, this holds no real importance seeing as how he’s only been paid to be funny for the last three years. In 2006 Matt moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico from Los Angeles, California, and after being told, presumably by a beautiful woman, to do stand up, Matt started at Laff’s Comedy Club in the open-mic comedy scenes. Matt started to pursue his goals of making people laugh while also making a living out of it. In 2007 Matt appeared on ABC’s Last Comic Standing and was voted one of the funniest comedians in the Albuquerque Weekly Alibi “Best of the city” Publication. He can be seen at numerous shows and events all over New Mexico and surrounding states. In addition to doing his own stand-up, Matt promotes other local comics, and hosts comedy shows all over Albuquerque. JOHN CUELLAR

John Cuellar has been performing stand-up since the open mic days of Laughs comedy club. He has performed in a variety of venues from casinos and comedy clubs to dive bars and theaters. MARIANNA MARCHENKO

Marianna has live in the United State for the past 18 years after having been raised in Estonia, Tallinn. Two years ago she entered a comedy contest for fun and placed 4th which was an accomplishment for never stepping foot on stage. She is a frequent performer in and around the Albuquerque area, such as Hallenbrick Brewery, Lotus, Terrene Hookah lounge, Aux Dog, County Line, Elliots and Low Spirits to name a few. She also performs at private shows and bookings. She is a regular on the televised “Duke City Comedy League” which airs regionally on My50-TV. Her Russian roots and raw style of comedy has brought her nickname, “The Raunchy Russian”.

BLACK MIKE

If comedy had a calling, Michael “Black Mike” Ogden was late to that calling. Born in Pittsburgh, PA to an African-American Father and half Japanese mother, helped fuel what is the outlandish views we hear on stage. Starting his comedy career in Montgomery, Alabama in 2002, at local bar. With a name like Black Mike, he had to be funny for survival!Shortly after, Mike moved to New Mexico in 2003 to find a great comedy scene and has been a rising star in New Mexico since. Black Mike has opened for popular stand up comics such as, Alex Thomas, Nikki Carr, Michael Blackston, Cory Fernandez, and Tiffany Haddish. In 2007, Black Mike was an opener for the B.E.T. comedy Explosion. Hosted by Pierre “Source” Magazines “Dirtiest Comic”. Mike continues to view the world through his obsure looking glass and share them with the crowd. Leaving you with a side splinting ache….that’s called laughter.

EDDIE TAFOYA

I am a professor of American literature and creative writing at New Mexico Highlands University in Las Vegas, NM. I am also author of the books “The Legacy of the Wisecrack: Stand-Up Comedy as the Great American Literary Form” (BrownWalker Press, 2009), and “Icons of African-American Comedy” (Praeger/Greenwood, 2011). I am a native of Albuquerque and teach stand-up comedy as literature. When time allows, I play clubs in New Mexico, Arizona, Texas, and Colorado. I have been a regular at Laffs in Albuquerque, Laffs in Tucson, Wits End in Westminster, CO, and Loonees, in Colorado Springs. I am also a regular on “The Duke City Comedy League” and this fall will be featured on “The After After Party with Steven Michael Quezada” and the documentary film “Alone Up There.”

MIKE BOYLE

Mike first hit the comedy stage in 1993. He quickly became a favorite in the Albuquerque area. Since then, Mike has been entertaining many audiences across the nation, and created the LOL505 Comedy Tour to meet the needs of the comedy deprived southwest. He has produced over 250 Comedy shows since 1995. He has appeared on NBC’s Last Comic Standing, The After After Party with Steven Michael Quesada, and was a favorite on The Duke City Comedy League. He has been called upon to host many charitable fundraisers and continues to show why his comedy is so true. With his ability to see life and put a humorous twist on reality, Mike can only be compared to Dorothy in the Wizard of OZ, as he continuously questions the man behind the curtain. His quick wit and talent for expressing idiotic truths always leaves audiences confused as to why they want more, but they ALWAYS want more!!

ROGER PETERSON

Brash and to the point, Roger tells it as it is. With his crazy life experience and personal achievement, his is a set you don’t want to miss. Here’s a little word from Roger “Spring 1961 our family moved to southern Minnesota. When I was a little boy our family used to watch the Ed Sullivan show and it was great entertainment. I especially like the comedians. One night Rodney Dangerfield is on the show and at very young age I laughed very hard at his material. Growing older he would be on other programs like the Dean Martin show and other variety shows. In high school I used to do his routine for other students. I started doing his routine for Christmas parties, Super Bowl parties, and Birthday parties. Doing Rodney makes feel really good that I can keep his memory alive and for younger people give them a taste of what he was like. I lived in and worked in the Twin Cities from 1985 t0 1988 then I moved to Long Beach CA. January 1, 1997 I moved to Albuquerque, NM land of entrapment. January 2000 I was offered the General Manager Position at Howies Sports Page located SW corner of Montgomery and Tramway. October 2008 Matt Peterson and I started Rojo’s Comedy Room in Howies Sports Page. We did a comedy show the fourth Friday of the month. I also do original material, but then I will get this itch, Rodney wants to come out, so I oblige him. I hope you enjoy the show.
